A coelacanth is an ancient deep-sea fish once believed extinct for over 60 million years until it was rediscovered alive in 1938. It’s often called a “living fossil” because it has changed very little over vast stretches of time.

The coelacanth is the perfect symbol of return, endurance, and rediscovery. It represents something once thought lost and the proven to still exist. For Lazarus Foundry, that idea translates directly: reviving what’s been overlooked and forging it into something meaningful again.

The logo design is the iconic silhouette of the coelacanth with decidedly old world looking scales. The fish is intentionally looking backwards (to the left), reflecting the archival focus of the brand. There is also intentional symmetry issues within the design, reflecting the eclectic and imperfect ethos of the brand.
